About Our Curriculum

The curriculum at Holy Family Catholic School is aligned to Learning Standards established by the Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Joliet. Standards and objectives represent a sequence of learning through which students acquire and build upon a progression of knowledge and skills. In addition to providing appropriately rigorous coursework, the curriculum is embedded in Catholic teachings. This in turn establishes our uniquely Catholic Culture. Our goal is to develop modern day Disciples of Christ and our graduates are well prepared for the challenges of high school and beyond.

Students receive daily instruction in the core content areas of Religion, Reading/Literature, English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. Specials classes include Art, Music, Instructional Technology, Physical Education/Health, and Spanish (Grades 5-8). Extra-curricular activities ranging from athletics, to instrumental music, choir, chess, and engineering enrich the educational program and contribute to a student’s academic success.

In keeping with the teaching of Jesus to love and respect the dignity of each individual as a child of God, the faculty and staff of Holy Family make every effort to appropriately accommodate individual students’ needs. Our framework for the continuous improvement of all learners includes utilization of research based instructional strategies, Response to Intervention (RtI), formative and summative assessment, and positive behavior management.

Parent Reviews

“I send my children to Holy Family Catholic School because I love the fact that it has a family atmosphere and I feel my kids are in a safe environment. The before and after care option is also a great fit for my family. The teachers and administrators are friendly, professional, and excellent at getting the very best out of the children. I highly recommend this school not only for its strong academics but also for your child’s overall development.” - Sandra Rodriguez

"You can really get a feeling of family when you walk into the school. Our children have received the greatest lifelong gift of faith. Our Priests, Principal and Staff teach the importance of respect. And, the masses prepared by each class really prove the children learn the importance of their faith." - Shirley Pingel

"We elected to send our granddaughter to Holy Family Catholic School because we feel she needs a strong foundation to carry her through her life. We value the teachings of the Catholic Church and put a very high value on a solid Catholic education. The foundation of our faith will carry her forward through all the challenges she will face in life." - Harold Bakos

"Our sons have developed spiritually, academically and socially through all the programs that are offered at Holy Family, including the Athletics program. The teachers are the heart of the school and the teachers at Holy Family Catholic School are great! The genuinely care about our children" - Michele Eichhorn

"We initially decided to send our children to Catholic school, because we wanted them to enjoy the same small, family-like atmosphere that we had enjoyed growing up in a rural community. We also wanted them to receive religious instruction as part of their overall educational experience. Both of our children have developed a strong faith. Each has been nurtured and cared for by the teachers, staff and families of Holy Family Catholic School." - Rachel Bergren

"I initially elected to send my young children to Holy Family Catholic School because of the convenience. I am a working mother and the full-day kindergarten, with before and after school care options were what I needed. The BIG surprise to me was, once we started attending Holy Family Catholic School, the convenience of it all is a very small piece of the benefit. My children are happy, they are excelling, the small class sizes and student to teacher ration is wonderful and provides more one-on-one attention to each student. But most of all, this school feels like a family. It feels safe and welcoming. The underlying teachings of our faith permeate the halls and everyone is treated with respect. Not only are my children getting a great academic education, they are in a an environment that teaches by example how to live as good Catholics." - Denise Steinbrecher

"Holy Family is a great school. We had many opportunities to practice our Catholic faith. We had school masses once a week. our teachers prepared us well for high school. We had may special classes, like art, computers, and library and a very good sports program. We also had other programs throughout the year, like our Christmas program, Science Fair, Geography Bee and May Crowning." - Max (class of 2010)

"There are many great things about Holy Family Catholic School. First of all, we were taught about our Catholic faith daily in our religion class. We went to church every Wednesday, celebrated Holy Days of Obligation, and participated in Eucharistic Adoration every first Friday of the month. However, these are just some of the many advantages of having gone to Holy Family. We also had great academics here. All of our teachers were great! We also were very fortunate to have extra curricular activities and sports programs. We had a lot of fun in after-school activities. The coaches and volunteers were very nice people. This is a great school and a great community." - Micheal (class of 2010)

"There are a lot of things that come to mind when I think of Holy Family Catholic School. For some reason, the saying, 'A home away from home', is usually the one that stands out. That sums it up - HFCS is the best! Holy Family is our home. We are a family. We learned together, played together, prayed together, and that is the reason we stayed together." - Alissa (class of 2009)

"Holy Family was my home away from my real home when I attended. Holy Family has a lot to offer, especially sports and band. Holy Family prepared me for high school. I am proud to be in the first graduating class of Holy Family Catholic School" - Julia (class of 2009)

"What was so amazing about Holy Family Catholic School were our teachers. We were very lucky to be blessed with all many great teachers. In Junior high, we switched classes every period and our teachers were experts in the subjects they taught. We also had wonderful parent volunteers to help run our sports program" - Alex (class of 2010)
